Jesus Christ and Him Crucified

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God…For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.
1 Corinthians 1:17-18 & 2:2

Oswald Chambers said
“When you find yourself face to face with a person who is spiritually lost, remind yourself of Jesus Christ on the cross. If that person can get to God in any other way, then the Cross of Christ is unnecessary. If you think you are helping lost people with your sympathy and understanding, you are a traitor to Jesus Christ. You must have a right-standing relationship with Him yourself, and pour your life out in helping others in His way-not in a human way that ignores God. The theme of the world’s religion today is to serve in a pleasant, non-confrontational manner. But our only priority must be to present Jesus Christ crucified-to lift Him up all the time.”

The convicting burden to evangelize to a lost friend or family is hard. I am always finding a way to “evangelize with out being confrontational”. I pray for them, try not to be outspoken or offensive around them, try to be sympathetic and understanding to them, try to show them Christ through my actions, anything to avoid any sort of confrontation.

Chambers said “If you think you are helping lost people with your sympathy and understanding, you are a traitor to Jesus Christ.” I am certainly not undermining prayer, and showing Christ through your life; or promoting unloving, proud confrontation, but people need to know Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

I do not want to be a traitor to Jesus Christ, but rather to “preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech (or action), so that the cross for Christ would not be made void.” My prayer for this Holiday season is that, as we encounter various lost friends and family members that we do not “serve in a pleasant non-confrontational manner, but present Jesus Christ crucified-to lift Him up all the time.”
